Coastal campaign
A national campaign to encourage people to protect and care for the New Zealand coastline is being conducted by the national conservation week campaign committee. Called “Save Our Coast,” the promotion is publicising the need for all New Zealanders to be vigilant about the country’s coastlines, estuaries, and beaches, which are particularly vulnerable at times of intensive use during the warm weather. Much of the campaign is being directed at young people, who have been encouraged to form their own “coast-watch patrols,” which entails adopting a stretch of coast and studying all aspects of it such as pollution, birdlife, and beach erosion. The campaign committee provides material on fishery regulations, illegal reclamations, polluiton; litter, and the importance of sand dunes and information on who is responsible for the control of the coastal environment.
