Home’s running costs higher
More than 857,000 was > spent to care for the 2841 children who stayed at the, Cholmondeley Children’s; Home last year. The home’s annual report ' said this was about 15.000 more than in 1976. Wages and salaries cost 27 per cent more than in 1976' • and housekeeping rose by 19 :per cent. This compared with a 17 per cent and a 25 peri I cent rise during 1976. The actual cost of running, •the home was ss7,46l—the income was $55,635. The home’s street appeal I was again a record, raising [nearly $ll,OOO. $5OO more ■than in 1976. Subscriptions I from members and supporters [contributed another $4700. [ Grants from the ChristI church City Council, the Ric-
< carton and Lyttelton Borough Councils and the Ellesmere County Council totalled $155. Heat, light and power cost 'nearly a third more than in 1976. as did the cost of repairs and renewals. The home’s accumulated ! funds have increased by about $73,000. mostly by the revaluation of homes and | buildings, but also by lega(cies. I Several capital projects are planned for this year, including an upgrading of the water system, building facilities for treating septic tank effluent, and building of a garage workshop. Preliminary drawings for a venture playground have also been drawn up. although this is a long-term project.
