Golden Shears title

PA Masterton The Eltham handpiece wizard Roger Cox took his second successive open title at the Golden Shears championships in Masterton on Saturday evening. But the 26-year-old had to be at his best to win the title. He was third off the board in the 20-sheep final and scraped through to victory with 86.7217 points. Adrian Cox (Timaru) was second with 86.5417 points and behind him were Ray Alabaster (Taihape) and Ivan Rosandich (Albany). Cox received a cheque for $6OO for the victory plus a Sunbeam product and a place in the New Zealand team to go to Australia.

The Allan Trass Memorial Tray for the intermediate grade shearer with the best quality points was won by Mrs Barbara Marsh (Aria). The trophy -for the junior with the highest quality points also went to a woman, Gaye Walford (Feilcfing).
