Tough soccer final for Rangers
After beating Trans Tours United in a semi-final last Sunday, Rangers will try for a fine double when it meets Woolston W.M.C. in the final of the Air New Zealand soccer tournament at Queen Elizabeth II Park tomorrow.
Two wins in consecutive weeks over Christchurch’s two Rothmans National League teams would be a great boost to Rangers chances in the Broadlands Southern League competition.
The Woolston coach (Mr Terry Mann) said yesterday a doubtful starter for the match, at this stage, was the hard-working striker, Stan McGaffin. He got a knock in the semi-final win last Sunday against New Brighton. On the credit side, however, is the reappearance of the solid Hans Bisig, who has been on holiday. Two players, Andy Goudswaard and Jorm Flyvbjerc, remain on the injury list—the unfortunate Flyvbjerc suffering a tom hamstring at a school athletics meeting on Thursdav.
On the other hand, the
Rangers coach (Mr lan Marshall) has virtually a full squad from which to pick his team. John Oliver will definitely not be playing, but that apart he has no worries. He is looking forward to the match, but realises that it will be very difficult to win.
“It will certainly be as difficult as the United game. If anything, it could be tougher. Woolston’s form has probably been better than United’s until now.
“We certainly do not think it will be easy.” The match wil Ibegin at 2.30 p.m. on the No. 2 ground at Queen Elizabeth II Park.
