Three titles decided at N.Z. cycling

N. Lyster beat the former junior champion, Gary Sullivan, in each of their three rides in the quarter-finals of the senior sprint at the Dealing national hard-track championships at Denton Park yesterday.

In the semi-finals, he was joined by Gary Sword (East Coast-North Island). Wayne Palatchie (Wellington), and Ray Knight (Canterbury). The latter two are probably the top seeds Left in the competition and will no doubt be seeded to meet each other in the final. Three finals were decided. Nick PurceU (Canterbury) l retained the 450 m boys’ title, edging out Steve Briggs (West Coast-North Island), and Craig Adair. Dick Johnstone (Auckland) took the 450 m title at the other end of the age scale, comfortably heading off Peter van der Hulst (Waikato) and Barry Harcourt (Southland). Canterbury got back ir.to the hunt for the Points Shield when Tony Duder easily outlasted the other members of his four-man break to win the junior classic over 8000 m.
