Labour’s deposit lost
PA Wanganui The Labour candidate in the Rangitikei by-election, Mr J. J. Stewart, has lost his $lOO deposit, having failed to attract a quarter of the vote of the winning candidate, Mr B. C. Beetham (Social Credit). The Values and Indepen-
dent candidates, Dr J. D. Hocking and Mr M. J. Leniston, have also forfeited their deposits. , Mr Stewart’s final vote was 1614, and he needed 1701 to keep his deposit. Labour’s Rangitikei candidate in the 1975 General Election, Mr N. R. Pearce, kept his deposit.
