N.Z. food marketing studied
How to secure better access to the markets of wealthy industrialised countries for the food exncrts c Australia and New Zealand w'as the subject of a threeday seminar at Massey University.
The 40 participants, mainlv from Australia and New Zealand, included economists, public servants, representatives of marketing boards, politicians, and others ininvolved in the study or nractice of marketing. The seminar was sponsored by the Kellog Rural Ad’ istment Unit of the University of New England, New South Wales, the Trade Policy Research Centre, London, and .Massey University.
Most of the papers pre'sented to the semina dealt with the possibility of negotiating small annual increases in imports of foodstuff's by the European Econlomic Community. Japan, and the United States. I The findings of the seminar will be presented to marketing boards and Government I agencies, which, although represented at the seminar will! inot be bound to accept the] i recommendations.
Several of the recommendations are aimed at increasing public awareness in the E.E.C., Japan, and the United 'States of the availability of | lower-cost foodstuffs front •Australia and New Zealand, j The seminar’s sponsors ;hope to produce a book ->f i essays, for overseas distribution, on topics discussed at the seminar.
