Bonanza for apples?
London correspondent It should be a bonanza vear in Europe for New Zea-1 land apples. European apple production, at 5.3 million, tonnes last year, was the, lowest since 1964. A New Zealand trade official in Brussels said hat last year’s New Zeaand export of apples to Europe of 34.000 tonnes hould be exceeded this year >y about 14,000 tonnes. Prices were expected to remain high. The outlook is also good or kiwi fruit. Last vear’s lirect exports to Belguim done are expected to more han double, to about 300 onnes. Airfreighted kiwi fruit, vhich starts to arrive in midMay, sell for about $1 each.
