Thais report new attack

NZPA-Reuter Bangkok About 200 Cambodian soldiers have attacked a remote defence outpost inside Thailand, killing a border policeman and burning a school to the ground, according to the border police headquarters in Bangkok. It was the fifth reported clash along the tense border since the Thai Foreign Minister (Mr Upadit Pachariyangkun) returned from Cambodia on February 2, declaring confidently that good relations had been restored between the hostile

neighbours. The latest attack took place on Tuesday in Lahansai, a village near Thailand’s north-eastern border with Cambodia, not far from another reported attack and the abduction by Cambodian soldiers of some 300 villagers last week-end. The police said the atJackers had opened up with rocket-propelled grenades and Chinese-made AK47 rifles, and had withdrawn into Cambodia after a 20 minute firefight with local defenders. Four Thais were still reported missing.
