Papanui to have library by May
Papanui will probably [ I have its own branch library i by May 1. The library will occupy, (3800 sq ft of floor space on the - ground floor of the Roundabout Shopping Arcade, on the Main North Road through Papanui. According to the Deputy City Librarian, (Mis's Helen Tate), the library eventually will have 15,000 books. Stocks of books had begun to “trickle in”, but furniture and fittings were still awaited. Miss Tate said that until
[now Papanui had been served by a voluntary library, and a part-time children’s librarian had worked some afternoons of the week. A full-time librarian had been appointed for the new library, and she would have two assistants. The library, would stock books catering to suburban needs, tending mainly towards light reading and practical, home-oriented subjects. The library’s hours would be tailored to the needs of ..he area.
