Attack on swan
Sir, — It is reassuring to know that Mrs K. Meager, by the very fact that she took the trouble to write her letter, is one of the few who do something constructive in the interests of those creatures who are at the mercy of destructive elements in the community. I, too, have witnessed the attempts of boys at Lake Virginia to wreck the nest of a Canada goose, but the sticks they carried were turned on them, much to their chagrin. Lakes in London are likewise a safe refuge for numerous birds. Violence is now very difficult to combat and, as stated by M. Creel, man has polluted the birds’ habitat. — Yours, etc., L. E. REID. February 14, 1978. [This correspondence is now closed.—Editor]
