M. Jones wins medley
Melanie Jones (Wharenui), better known for her feats in backstroke events, won the Canterbury women’s 400 m individual medley title at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening. Miss Jones has seldom swum the long medley, but last evening she had the satisfaction of I beating her club-mate, Trudii Garland, on the final freestvle! leg in a creditable time. Paul Rowe (Wharenui) won his; sixth Canterbury title for the week, finishing well clear of his! club-mates, Michael Smith and Gavin Dixon, in the men’s 800 m freestyle. Dixon and Smith provided a spirited finished for the silver medal—Smith being
. awarded second place, although the two were credited with the same time. Jill Clarke (Wharenui) was an easy winner of the women’s 806 bi freestyle, which had only two starters.
