Canterbury boys win cricket
PA Ashburton The South Island central districts under 16 cricket teurna ment was won by Canterbury, in Ashburton yesterday. In its final match, Canterbury beat bottom-placed Christchurch Suburban, but not without a hard struggle. The award for the best fielding team went to South Canterbury.
A team was picked by selectors to represent all the layers at the tournament. It meets last year’s Ashburton under 16 side on February 19. The team is: M. O’Neill (Canty), A. Mackie (Nth Canty), R. Drake (Sth Canty), J. Sansom (Canty), D. Flannery (Nth Otago), J. McAllister (Nth Canty), C. Williamson (Canty). P. Johnson (Nth Otago), D. Flynn (Nth Canty), D. Henry (Canty), G. Jones (Sth Canty), M. S. Howarth (Canty). Results yesterday:—
Christchurch Suburban 133 (Alder 24, Gibb 24, Cox 25: Henry 5/32) lost to Canterbury 143/7 (Gibson st. Sansom 23, Bremner 28). South Canterbury 135 (Ralph 46, R. Drake 27; D. Flynn 4/40, M. Neill 4/19) beat North Canterbury 92 (Nordstrom 26, Purdon 18 not out; Ralph 2/17). North Otago 121 (Flannery 17, Crombie 34; Hurley 4/24)" and 47/2 (Crombie 20 not out. White 17 not out) beat Ashburton 53 ißigden 5/7, Molyneaux 3/7) and 112 (Chapman 28. Hurlev 25; Molyneaux 7/9). Final points: Canterbury 52, North Otago 46 South Canterbury 43. North Canterbury 37, Ashburton 20, Christchurch Suburban 19.
