N.Z. man in Arctic expedition
NZPA-Reuter Thule (Greenland) A British Arctic explorer, Willy Herbert, set out yesterday from the north Greenland settlement of Thule in the first known attempt to sled, ski, and sail around Greenland Herbert, aged 43. accompanied by another Briton. Allan Gill, and a New Zealander. John Bitters, expects to complete the 12.000 km journey in about 15 months. The expedition will first move northwards into the Arctic night using dogteams. heading for the northern-most tip of Greenland at Cape Morris Jessup It will then travel down the uninhabited north-east coast, described as the lo.ielieH stretch of shore in the world, expecting to reach open water when the ice breaks up next spring.
