Shipping News Buffalo revival at Rapaki
A Buffalo revival will begin at Rapaki on Sunday afternoon. It is the inspiration of the Lyttelton No. 8 Buffalo Lodge to recall when, for about five years, the Lyttelton Lodge was based in Rapaki. Lyttelton’s Buffalo Lodge was one of the first established in New Zealand, says [ the secretary (Mr G. F. (Allen). ■ The records indicate that [the first Buffalo meeting I was held in the lounge bar of ■the Mitre Hotel in 1886. For [reasons not altogether clear, ■ the venue was later changed, in 1927, to Rapaki where it remained until it returned to Lyttelton in 1933. Sunday’s open day for the wives and families of Buffalo members is designed to renew that old association with Rapaki, says Mr Allen. At the same time, it is hoped to make a substantial contribution to the Rapaki Community Council’s latest project — the kitchen block on the community hall.
Mr Allen says he cannot 'divulge how the funds will 'be raised because that is j something the ‘’Buffs” regard as a trade secret. But a jhang: prepared by Rapaki I Maoris is in the offing as well as a rare chance for members to parade their lodge regalia in public. ARRIVALS Union Hobart t 6.35 4367.
