‘Black box ' found
The flight data-recorder s was among seven tonnes of wreckage fished out yesterday from the Arabian Sea where an Air India Boeing 747 jumbo jet crashed soon after taking off from Santa Cruz Airport, Bombay on New Year’s Day. The flightrecorder is being sent abroad for analysing the data. The search for the orange voice-recorder, the second “black box” aboard the plane, is continuing. The Dubai-bound plane with 213 people on board exploded in mid-air and plunged into the sea off Bandra, a suburb of Bombay, There were no survivors. — Bombay. Black-out protest The Australian Journalists Association will ask the Federal Government for further information about the reported news black-out on the illegal arrival of South East Asian refugees in Darwin. An Australian Associated Press correspondent in Darwin says the news blackout is believed to have been prompted by objection from Federal Government Ministers in Canberra who were learning about the new arrivals from press and radio reports rather than through official channels. The federal president of the A.J.A. (Mr John Lawrence) said the arrival of the refugees was a matter of importance which the public had a right to know about. — Sydney.
