Bravery award made Ontario fire rescue

A Canadian youth has been awarded this year’s Stanhope Gold Medal by the Royal Humane Societies of New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Britain. The medal is given once a year for the bravest deed reported to the humane societies of those four countries, that has not already been recognised by a Sovereign’s gallantry award. This year the award has been made to Randy Sherman Davey, aged 19, of Nepanee, in Ontario, for saving the lives of three persons trapped in a burning building.

Mr Davey was in Picton, Ontario, when, he saw flames coming from the building. He ran up to its) first floor where he banged: on walls and yelled for the occupants to get out. Flames followed him down the hallway, causing first, second, and third-degree burns to his head, face, hands, and back. He forced open the door of an apartment and helped its two occupants leap out a window on to another roof. On reaching the ground, Mr Davey went below the window of another apartment and persuaded a pregnant woman to jump into his arms.
