Subsidies for up to 10 horses

The Trotting Conference will subsidise up to 10 horses to the extent of $lOOO each for the Inter-Dominion Championship series in Melbourne next March. At present the, executive is considering subsidising six pacers and four trotters, but this ratio could be varied depending on the number of final acceptors, said the secretary (Mr John Rowley) yesterday. Previously the conference has been prepared to subsidise up to eight horses when the series has been held in Australia. Because of the inclusion of a series for trotters it was decided to increase the number by two, said Mr Rowley. The horses to receive the

subsidy will be selected by the emergency committee of the conference after the closing of acceptances. Horses will be able to win $2500 in stakes before the subsidy becomes reducible on a dollar for dollar basis. Horses must return to New Zealand within 90 days of the running of the Grand Final to be eligible for the subsidy.

“We are almost certain that the delays that have plagued transport arrangements in some recent years have been overcome,” w said Mr Rowley. “The InterDominion Trotting Council has chartered an aircraft to carry the horses from New Zealand and return them within a few days of the conclusion of the carnival,” he said.
