Swim series go-ahead

By

Kevin Tutty

Doubts about the international swimming series in New Zealand fiext month seem to be over. The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association and the Auckland firm Orbital Sports Productions had solved their differences on the staging of the series, said the general-secretary of the N.Z.A.S.A. (Mr R. Forster) last evening. A committee of the association met last evening to work out counter-proposals to an agreement submitted by the promotions firm. It then rang the managing director, Mr Brian Orbell, in Auckland and Mr Forster re-

ported that the two bodies were “on the brink of an amicable agreement." The N.Z.A.S.A. will submit its counter-proposals to Mr Orbell and it is hoped a full announcement on the series will be made later in the week, said Mr Forster. This will include details of the participants in the three carnivals that will be staged in New Zealand. The N.Z.A.S.A. said at a council meeting last week that it would be prepared to contribute $2500 to $5OOO towards the series — a bargain price with swimmers from Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, the United States, Russia and West Germany involved.
