Lanark to close
j XZPA-Reuter London One of Britain's most historic racecourses. Lanark, in Scot'i land, will close, the track execui ti ’e has announced. The course, set among pine trees in beautiful countryside, has staged flat racing for nearly 800 years, and its most valued trophy, the Lanark Silver Bell, was first raced for in 1608. The decision, not unexpected in view of poor attendances at the track, came after the Horserace Betting Levy Board, which ploughs back betting profits into British racing, refused any further financial help
