Taranaki girl wins beauty contest
Christine Beavis, of Midhurst in Taranaki, has won the “Miss New Zealand Young Fanner of the Year” contest, decided in Invercargill last week. She represented the Wellington region of the Young Farmers’ Club movement. Glenda Brock, of Knapdale in eastern Southland, was runner-up. She represeated the OtagoI Southland region. Canterj bury’s representative was i Diane Black of Culverden. j The main prize for the j contest is a trip to the I Sydney Royal Show at ! Easter and a visit to a ) farm in Australia. Five regions were repre- ; sented in the contest. The i judges were Misses Judy I Wingett, from Rural I Youth in Australia, and Pat Jephson, New Zealand organiser for the “Australian Women’s Weekly,” i Mr David Moss represent- | ing Noahs International, I Sydney, and Mr Eric Roy,
national vice-president of the Young Farmers Club movement. Afrer meeting the judges at supper on Tuesday evening the con* testants were interviewed on Wednesday morning. They then went to the show in Invercargill, lunched with the presilent, were interviewed on television and were each driven around the ring after the grand parade in a horse-drawn gig.
