A stitch in time
Explosives experts blew up a suspicious parcel at Christchurch Airport yesterday afternoon. Suspicious ticking from inside a mailbag started the drama about 3.15 p.m. Airport authorities quickly called in Internal Affairs Department experts. The woman to whom the mysterious parcel was addressed said she was expecting nothing but a Christmas gift. The experts took no chances. The parcel was detonated. The dust settled—and there, amid the remains, was a child’s toy sewing machine.
