Man faces wife-rape charge
( NZPA Adelaide A 25-year-old man has been charged with raping his . wife at their Adelaide home. ; It is believed to be the ■first time in South Australia ■ {that a man has been charged ■ with raping his, wife wthile ’(the two have been Jiving .10i gether. ' On December 1 last year, the South Australian Parliament became the first in the world to make rape within !ma triage -a criminal offence. In amendments to the Criminal Law Consolidation ‘Act, a husband can be charged with raping his wife while the two are living under the same roof or living apart. The alleged offence ocI curred when the woman’s 'husband arrived at their home early on Thursday ■night. The police say that the, man, told his ■ .wife he was; going to rape her and then forced her to lie face down on the floor in the house. The woman went to a police station and rgporl.ed! that her husband had raped, her and he was arrested later. A man has appeared in thei Adelaide Magistrate’s Court, charged with rape, and has; been remanded ,on sAustBooi bail to December 16.
