Old music on old instruments
(By C. Foster Browne) The Trianon Ensemble — Rhona Laver, Peter and Wendy Low, Julie Coulson, and Barry and Marian Empson—playing on instruments made in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, gave a recital in St Alban’s Metho-
dist Church on Sunday after- I noon. ; The instruments—the viol i family, harpsichord, baroque i flute, and baroque recorder — i were played in ensemble and solo works. The players must be congratulated on skilful and sty- ' lisb renderings of music : which has much to charm its i
hearers. The courtly elegance of the French Royal courts is reflected in the fluent grace of the music, and it retains its appeal today. Further recitals by this group of clever young players should be widely heard, and their talents rewarded with deserved attention.
