Timely Robin due for win in Orari Stakes
By
G. K. YULE
Timely Robin paced a splendid race for a distant third in Motu Prince’s record-run New Zealand Derby Stakes. He should gain some compensation for that placing in the Orari Challenge Stakes at the Geraldine Club’s annual meeting today. Hanover Don will not find this race quite so testing as the Derby, a race in which he finished sixth. He has drawn handily at No. 4 and, as he is usually a safe beginner, he should be close to the pace all the way. Twelve months ago his trainer, George Nobel, “quinellaed” this race with Regal Shine and Scottish Heath, third going to Belmer’s Image. Possibly one of the better chances will be the fine filly, Eastwood Glenfem, which has not had the bene-,
fit of a race start this spring. She looked in great heart at the Addington trials on Wednesday where she went a splendid race. She jshould be improved sufficiently to be a danger I in this field, even from 10m. These three by no means exhaust the possibilities in a very open field, which should provide the highlight of the day. Lord’s Secret and Tribunal are two talented young pacers, while Main Star, Hurricane Squire and Uncle
Andrew will all have their' supporters. This is the third leg of the on-course treble. The Rangitata Handicap, for slowclass trotters, will be the first leg, with the First Waihi Improvers Handicap for Cl pacers, the middle leg. John’s First, Our Tuft and Sandee form a likely trio in the first leg, while Crown Top, Torrid, Waterton and Luther should be the pick of a pretty ordinary lot in the second leg.
