Radio Rhema hearing
Radio Rhema’s licence application will be heard by the Broadcasting Tribunal in Christchurch from November 21.
The group made its first formal application in 1961, and another in 1970. The hearing to begin on November 21 was expected to take about two weeks, said the director of the Gospel Radio Fellowship (Mr D. Berry). It would be preceded on Sunday by a dedication service in Christchurch Cathedral. The fellowship intends a family oriented programme, aimed at meeting community needs, “easy listening” music with an emphasis on positive values, a news service cut-
ting out the sensational and adding some good news, current affairs programmes, and children’s and elderly people’s sessions. The fellowship owns assets valued at more than $210,000. It needs less than $27,000 more to get the station on the air, at an annual running cost in the first year of about $174,000. This cost would be met mainly from subscriptions and gifts, said the programme director (Mr J. McNeil). If the application was successful the fellowship would seek to be broadcasting by Christmas.
Financial membership is about 7500.
