Strike at Chch brewery

The 34 tradesmen in Christchurch have been working to rule since November 2. Tradesmen at other breweries in the South
Island have so far taken no industrial action.
The dispute is over wage claims in an agreement which applies to the breweries in the South Island. The tradesmen are members of the Engineers’ Union, which has been seeking the restoration of a 27 per cent skill margin over brewery workers for the tradesmen.
The employers have offered a wage increase of 12.7 per cent made up of an increase to the base rate of wages, an indenture allowance, trade certificate allowance, travel allowance and other increases.
