Papanui among leaders in two bowls divisions

Three teams share the lead In both divisions of the threefours inter-club bowls competition alter the third round on Saturday. Papanui has the distinction of being represented in both groups.

Papanui 1 joined Linwood I and spreydon 1 at the top of the division one table when it earned the maximum eight points against Cashmere 11, which had also been highly placed. Both Linwood 1 and Spreydon 1 marred their perfect records with a onegame loss.

These three teams have 22 points and are followed by St Martins I and Christchurch, on 20, and St Albans 1 and Burnside I, 19. Linwood 11, which shared the lead with its No. 1 team and Spreydon I before Saturday, dropped back through the field when it failed to add any points In its game against Canterbury.

Mona Vale, with an eight-point victory, and Papanui IV, with a return of seven points, drew level with Woolston I at the top of the division II ladder. Woolston I added six points and on 22 the trio has a break of four points on Woolston W.M.C. II and Fendalton IV. Morrison Avenue I is next on 17.

Burnside, the defending champion, retained the lead in the Manning Cup when it won four of its five games—the first time it has not won all five.

Going into Saturday’s third round. Bumside had 53 points and was followed by Kaiapoi (42.5), United and Beckenham < 39), Hoon Hay W.M.C. (38.5) and Tai Tapu (37.5).
