Guerrillas ‘will change tactics’

NZPA Reuter Bonn The West German Chief Public Prosecutor (Mr Kurt Rebmann) expects urban guerrillas in to switch their attacks from kidnapping to assassination. “I would rather expect sniper operations, or ‘executions’ as the terrorists call them,” Mr Rebmann said in an interview to be published in the newspaper, “Welt”. He said he expected fresh guerrilla attacks to be made after the kidnap and murder of the industrialist Dr Hanns-Martin Schleyer, last month.

But they were unlikely to involve the taking of hostages because the Govern-

ment had stood firm against the demands of Dr Schleyer’s captors for the release of jailed BaaderMeinhoff guerrilla gang leaders.

The chief prosecutor, whose predecessor was killed in a guerrilla ambush in Karlsruhe in April, said authorities were taking seriously threats purporting to come from the BaaderMeinhof guerrilla group to blow up three West German airlines in mid flight. The national airline, Lufthansa, had stepped up its security measures this year and was also taking precautions against rocket assaults, Mr Rebmann added.
