Robalan pricks up ears again
The old champion, Robalan, drawing the new American modified speed sulky, parades before a section of the crowd of more than 22,000 at Addington Raceway yesterday. Robalan, driven by the visiting American personality, Delvin Miller, led the field on to the track for the New Zealand Free-for-all — a race he has won three times.
To the delight of the crowd, Miller let Robalan speed up a little in a solo run back through the straight. The new sulky, said to be almost two seconds faster over a mile than its counterpart used in New Zealand, has been brought to New Zealand by the Standardbred Breeders’ Association and will be used for special attempts on records.
