This leopard seal has been frequenting Christchurch beaches for the last month. Usually a creature of sub-Antarctic waters, the seal reappeared at Waimairi Beach yesterday. It is old and in poor health, according to the vertebrate curator at the Canterbury Museum. Mr G. Tunnicliff. Its teeth have broken off and the seal is unable to catch fish or defend itself. Mr Tunnicliff warns, however, that it may attack anyone who annoys it. A second seal was reported about a mile away on the beach late last evening.
