Lucky surf rescue
Only half an hour after the Taylors Mistake Surf Life Saving Club began celebrating its opening day on Sunday, two people got into difficulties in the outflow and had to be rescued by the patrol. Mr M. Melhuish, president of the Canterbury Surf Life Saving Association of Clubs, said yesterday that although surf patrols did not begin on Canterbury beaches officially I until November 13, the Taylors Mistake patrol would be unofficially on duty from now on. Patrols on other beaches would probably not be on duty until that date, he said. Mr Melhuish said that it was most fortunate for the two who got into difficulties on Sunday that the Taylors Mistake surf patrol was on duty early this season.
