Govt may act on Comalco
PA Auckland The Government might have to consider taking unilateral action if talks with Comalco over a power-price agreement continued to bog down, said the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) last evening.
He said he expected the matter to be discussed by the Cabinet today but any immediate action was unlikely. “After all, the talks broke down only on Friday,” he said. Mr Muldoon said he expected there would be more discussions at “official level” but made it clear that the Government was in no mood to make concessions.
At no time in the 12-month history of discussions had Comalco and the Government been close enough to agreement.
Mr Muldoon would not say what the Government regarded as a reasonable increase in the price of power.
