Senior golf to McNally
Colin McNally won his first senior club championship when he beat Stephen Paterson, 3 and 2, in the final of the Waitikiri golf championship over 36 holes yesterday. Paterson, a nominee for the national junior school, reached the quarter-finals of the New Zealand amateur championship at Russley recently. Paterson just turned 18, was 2 down after
18 but there was some spectacular scoring in the afternoon. In the space of six holes, there were six birdies — three by each player — but McNally never surrendered his grip and won at the thirty-fourth. In the semi-finals, Paterson beat lan Pollock and McNally beat the former Canterbury Freyberg Rose Bowl player and champion two years ago, Ross Griffith.
