Gold falls $U.S.3
The recent upsurge in the gold price on the London market looked to be at an end on Thursday as the metal slumped almost SUS3.OO to close at $160.25 an ounce, compared with $163.20 on Wednesday and at one point in the afternoon fell below the $l6O mark. Dealers attributed the slump to the lower New York opening, and the firmer position on foreign exchange markets of the United States dollar—a reaction to the announced trade deficit, which was lower than expected.
