Crackers lose appeal
Fireworks seem to be losing their appeal among young people, according to some Christchurch retailers.
The 10-day selling period before Guy Fawkes Day began yesterday, but the demand for fireworks had been well down on last year, said a spokesman for one main Christchurch retailer. He said this could have bee caused largely by price increases. This is the last year in which fireworks more than 40mm long and 7mm in diameter can be sold legally.
