The Post Office has already introduced the computer banking service to branches at Lyttelton New Brighton, Merivale, Addington, Leeston, Rangiora, Riccarton, Sumner, Sydenham, and Woolston. By the end of this month the service will have been
extended to the Armagh Street, Univerity of Canterbury, and Bishopdale branches, and next month the Ashburton, Linwood, Methven, and Papanui branches will change. The conversion of these 20 savings banks involves 385,000 accounts. It will enable account holders to make deposits and withdrawals from any computerised post office in New Zealand and all accounts will be held on the main computer at Wellington so that passbooks can be updated instantly. This includes credits which may have been lodged only, minutes before elsewhere in New Zealand.
