Mini leads run
PA Rotorua, j A Leyland Mini I(XKJ with a fuel consumption of 52.285 miles per gallon has returned the best performance for the first two days of the Mobile Economy run. Last night the 27 cars and crews were back in Rotorua after a day of driving which took them 222 km to Tokoroa and back in fine weather. 'Hie event, aimed at finding the meanest fuel user in three engine capacity classes, began in Auckland on Tuesday. the first day brought the cars to Rotorua for an overnight stop and tomorrow they leave for Gisborne. They will make the return journey through Taupo to finish in Auckland on Saturday.
At the end of yesterday’s run the cars had covered 633.76 km at an average speed of 61.33km/h. The consumption figures for the leading cars in each class at the end of the second day were Class A (500-1350 e.c.).—Leyland Mini 1000, 52.285 m.p.g. (5.403 litres per 100 kilometres); Datsun 120 Y. 45.438 m.p.g. (6.271 Vauxhall Chevette. 44.866 m.p.g. (6.296). Class B ,1301-2000).—Isuzu Gem ini. 40.039 m.p.g. (6.282); MiUu blshi Celeste, 40.221 m.p.g. (7.023 , Austin Maxi, 38,600 m.p.g. (7.318 ■ Class C (2001 and over) -- Triumph 2500. 35.834 m.p.g (7.883); Holden Kingswood, 27.690 m p g. (10.210); Ford Falcon automatic, 25.544 m.p.g. (11.058).
