Abba in February?
There is a possibility that the Swedish group Abba will be playing at Queen Elizabeth II Park, Christchurch, next February, Darryl Sambell, the promoter of the Paul Dainty Corporation, said that Paul Dainty was negotiating with Abba for an Australasian tour next February which would include a concert at Western Springs Stadium, Auckland, and another at Queen Elizabeth II Park. According to Sambell, the three wool-bags of mail sent to Sweden asking Abba to tour New Zealand must have had some effect The group sent back a cassette tape on which the group apologised for missing New Zealand, and added they hoped to return on their next Australian tour.
Meanwhile, 100 seats have been made available on an ordinary flight from Christchurch to Auckland on Sunday, November 27, for those wishing to see the Fleetwood Mac ootncert at Western Springs Stadium. The cost is SI 18 return and includes cost of the concert ticket and bus fares between the Auckland airport and the stadium. The plane departs on Sunday, at 10.20 a.m. and returns at 8.45 p.m. CIO Travel in Worcester Street is handling the bookings. Opening the Fleetwood Mac show is the Kevin Borich Express, which is doing very well in Australia. Kevin Borich is a former member of the Audc« land group, the Lah De Dahs. John Denver's only concert in New Zealand is at Western Springs Stadium on Wednesday, November 16.
In consolation. Marcia Hines, Australia's top female vocalist, will be playing in the Christchurch Town Hall on Friday, November 11.
