Nicholls top in moto-cross
John Nicholls (YZ2SOD Yamaha) dominated the combined 250 and open classes of the two-day Yamaha moto-cross on the demanding Moody’s Farm circuit at Kaiapoi. Nicholls won all six heats durMore racing, page 27
ing the two days in one of the most outstanding performances of recent times. The runner-up overall was Allan Bryce (YZ2SOD Yamaha). Nicholls also won the final “Iron man” race over six laps, which was open to the top 30 riders. Bryce was the runner-up. Chris Brady (YZI2SD Yamaha) gained a worthy victory over Mike Thompson (RM1258 Suzuki) in the 125 A class. Third place on points went to Chris McQuaide (YZI2S Yamaha), of Nelson. His brother, Tim McQuaide (YZ1258 Yamaha) won the 1258 class. A total of 140 riders competed in the moto-cross.
