New Honda twin
Motor-cycling : ’ -
The CB4OOT (above) represents a radical change in design and concept for Honda. This motor-cycle incorporates many innovations. For example, the three valve setup (two inlet, one exhaust), plus the dynamically counterbalanced crankshaft and C.D.I. ignition. The motor-cycle is lighter than the CB4OOF and it has more valve overlap than the 400 F. The 400 T has many advantages in addition to its more powerful motor.
The frame and suspension have been improved, the new “Comstar” wheels add not only looks but also improve stability. Because the motor produces more torque, Honda has used only five gears. This motor produces 40 b.h.p. at 9500 r.p.m. With a wide power band, six gears have proved unnecessary. Ease of servicing and long motor life are features that Honda is confident will help sell this machine.
Another newcomer to the Honda range in New Zealand is the CBSOJ. This motor-cycle has a very powerful motor compared to the other 50 cu.cm, motors on the market, producing 6.3 h.p. at 10,500 r.p.m. The motor is red lined at 11,500 r.p.m. and with a five-speed gearbox this power is readily available. The machine features a mechanical disc brake and a light weight — only 1801 b. The 17in wheels give good handling and a comfortable ride.
