Policeman for Hornby expected
Hornby will almost certainly get a community policeman, a meeting of the Hornby district Community Council was told on Tuesday evening. The council had been told that the Government intended to appoint a community constable at Hornby during this financial year. The immediate past chairman of the council, Mrs J. E. Woodham, said that the council had encouraged the Government to appoint a police community liason officer in Hornby for many years. She said there was every indication that this appointment would be made soon. Late last year it was reported that there was a problem with juvenile crime in the Hornby area. A Community Council meeting was told that “protection money” was being paid by some schoolboys to avoid being beaten up. The council decided then to apply to the police for a community policeman to deal with youth problems in the area.
