Rise in U.S. tourists
The number of tourists from North America coming to New Zealand over the 12 months to July, 1977, increased 6666 over the preceding year, said the Minister of Tourism (Mr Lapwood) in Parliament. The increase represented a percentage growth of 10.76. Mr Lapwood said that the growth rate from the United States had been 12.45 per cent but from Canada it had been only 3.7 per cent. He forecast a growth in the number of Canadian tourists once the proposed travel commission was established in Toronto.
