Taxi driver robbed

PA Auckland An Auckland cooperative taxi-driver, Mrs Roma Jarvis, aged 46, was robbed at knife point on Monday afternoon in a Ponsonby street.

Mrs Jarvis said that a dark-skinned youth wielding a knife stole $2l and her taxi about 1.30 p.m. A mother of four, Mrs Jarvis picked up a passenger at the Shortland Street taxi rank and was requested to go to John Street, Ponsonby. The passenger was a Maori, or part-Maori, young, although he acted older, and “quite well spoken and chatty, too.” “When I stopped in John Street, he pulled me right back across the seat by the hair and put a knife at tire back of my neck,” said Mrs Jarvis.

“He asked me to pass my money over. Fortunately, I didn’t have all my money together.” The assailant cut the radio-telephone lead with the knife. The robber then decided to take the car, which was found abandoned in Ponsonby a short time later.
