Shipping News Go-slow leavened by dearth of shipping
The watersiders’ “go-slow” ground inexorably into its fifth day yesterday, with little sign of an end. However the effects of the go-slow at Lyttelton have not been as great as they might have been, because of a relatively quiet spell in shipping. Only three ships were being worked yesterday — the coaster Ngahere, the. Japanese steel ship Homei Maru, and the rolUon ship Union Lyttelton. Both the Ngahere and the Union Lyttelton were being worked about one third the normal rate.
No figures for the Homei Maru were available yesterday. The go-slow was imposed nationally last week following a break-down in award negotiations. It is understood
that negotiations may start again in Wellington today. ARRIVALS Union Lyttelton (7.9 a.m.), 4500, Capt. I. Harrison, Wellington (U.S.S.). Home! Maru <2.45 p.m.), 5100, Japan (Japan Line).
