Prime cattle again in strong demand
Prime cattle had another very good sale at the Addington Market yesterday. Prices paid for light to medium-weight heifers were often a feature of selling. Good quality prime hoggets again sold steadily, but plain sheep were a little easier. A slightly easier trend ruled in the prime sheep section, although there were a number of sales of shorn ewes at $lO or a little more, and woolly ewes at $l4 or more. Both the hogget and prime sheep sections again drew good entries from the Blenheim area.
Store wether hoggets again had a brisk sale, the best of them reaching $l5, but there was not particularly strong inquiry for a small entry of ewe hoggets.
Prime hoggets Hoggets had another sound sale where quality was well up to standard, but the plainer type of sheep again had an easier sale throughout. This week’s yarding was quite large. It numbered 2150, compared with 2250 last week. Few heavy-weight sheep were included. However, it was evident that good shorn medium-weight sheep had the best demand throughout. Values for them ranged from par to about 40c a head easier.
Hoggets which were plain or not quite finished were 70c to 80c a head easier. A small entry of spring lambs improved as much as a dollar a head mainly because quality was a little better. Values were:— Best hoggets, $18.50 to $19.50 with odd sales to $2O. Medium hoggets, $l6 to 517.50. Light hoggets, $14.50 to $15.50. Other hoggets, down to $l3. Best spring lambs, to $15.50. Light to medium, $l3 to $14.50. Leading sales of prime hoggets included:—

most of the offering, and 95 per cent of them were shorn. Although the market followed an easier trend, quite a number of shorn ewes reached $lO. and good woolly ewes readily fetched up to sl4.
