Sandra Falelili another step from ‘The Street’

PA Wellington The former star of “Coronation Street,” Sandra Gough, was married in Wellington on Tuesday to a Western Samoan, Mr Maletai Soonanofo Falelili.

The bridegroom, aged about 30 — two years older than the bride — was brought up and went to school in Wellington. He is secretary-manager of the Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Union. Eight persons attended the wedding ceremony — a traditional Methodist one.

The bride wore a long white dress and a veil hired from a Porirua bridal-hire firm — “and I looked beautiful; everyone said so,” she said yesterday. She looked her best yesterday morning, too emerging into the warm living room of her new home, cleared of last night’s wedding cake and pavlova. She wore a red velvet suit, and enthused

about her new husband, and her wedding party the night before. “It was the first party I’ve ever had. I don’t really like them, but this was a lovely one. Everyone enjoyed it. The point is, did you enjoy it?” she said mischievously to her husband, as she sipped an early-morning drink. Mr Falelili has lived in

New Zealand for 16 years, and completed a B.Sc degree at Victoria University, [ where he has worked as the secretary-manager of the' university union since 197]. He first met Miss Gough, after she had been invited to! a university cabaret. She, telephoned to accept and he, promised to pick her up and 1 take her. “He sounded so stuck-up I! thought: ‘I don’t mind if you; don’t’,” she said. But the two saw each other several; times before the cabaret on August 13 — and it all went on from there. What of the future? Miss Gough intends to stay home and look after the Brooklyn house — though the couple intend to visit Mr Falelili’s mother in Samoa and her British parents as soon as possible.

“We hope to have children as soon as possible,” she said. “We have lots of bedroom space. Ooh won’t it be nice.”
