Sales of bikes restricted
Mr D. Boyle, chairman of the motor-cycle division of the institute, is concerned that at a time when for reasons of national economy the motorcycle should be coming into its own-, hire purchase restrictions have brought sales to around 16,000 for the year — half what they were in the early 19705. Even these figures do not give the true picture of how restrictions are affecting sales of this ideal one-man commuter transport in the metropolitan- areas. Sixty per cent of today’s sales are farm bikes, whereas five or six years ago the position was reversed.
