CROWD AND TOTE
The Ashburton Trotting Club had a reasonably successful spring meeting at Addington Raceway on Saturday. The crowd of 6600 was not as great as had been expected, but. according to the secretary (Mr Trevor Robertson), it was close to double that at the last spring meeting on the club’s home course.
On-course betting more than doubled, amounting to $310,979, an increase of $163,046. The Off-course total increased by $46,579 to $345,851.50.
Costs of racing at Addington are much higher than at Ashburton and the club hopes that it will ccme out of Saturday’s meeting with a small profit.
