Man held after kidnap
NZPA Canberra A 26-year-old son of a Sydney barrister faced five charges in the Canberra Magistrate’s Court relating to the stabbing and abduction last Thursday of the military attache at the Indian High Commission in Canberra (Colonel Iqbal Singh). John William Duff was charged with assault with intent to murder, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, kidnapping Colonel Singh, and kidnapping and assaulting Mrs Singh.
Mr W. Nichol, S.M., remanded Mr Duff in custody until September 30. October 26 has been tentatively set for a hearing of the charges in the Supreme Court.
